Announcing our new charity of the year: Carers Gloucestershire

12 June 2018

We’re delighted to announce that our staff will spend a year fundraising for Carers Gloucestershire, a local charity that has been supporting unpaid carers for more than 25 years.

The announcement falls on Carers Week (June 11-18), which is a national campaign that raises the awareness of, and celebrates, the UK’s seven million unpaid carers.

The charity offers services and support for carers including advice and guidance, positive caring courses, carer-to-carer support, counselling, support groups and day trips for carers.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the charity of the year by the staff at Willans and are really excited about the opportunities this partnership presents,” says Carers Gloucestershire chief executive, Tim Poole.

“As well as the fundraising aspect of the partnership, having our name linked with such an established, prestigious local firm can only help raise the profile of carers across the county, the issues they face and support available from Carers Gloucestershire.

“In Gloucestershire alone there are at least 63,000 carers, that’s more than 1 in 10 of the population. I’d like to thank the partners and staff at Willans for getting behind our nomination and giving us the opportunity to benefit from this fantastic partnership.”

We have raised around £90,000 over the past six years which has been put toward all sorts of charitable projects throughout Gloucestershire. Our team of around 75 staff are busy planning a calendar of fundraising activity ranging from large social events to baking competitions and sporting challenges.

Simon Cook, partner and head of our wills, probate and trusts department, said: “We’re proud to pledge our support during Carers Week which helps raise awareness of the challenges the sheer number of unpaid carers in the county and beyond face. We work with many carers who look after people of all ages and with differing needs.

“We’re very excited about our new charity partnership with Carers Gloucestershire and look forward to sharing more news about our efforts including how you can get involved and support our fundraising endeavours to raise as much as possible for this very deserving charity.”

Daphne Sanderson, a former trustee of Carers Gloucestershire and a client of Willans, added:

“I’ve been a carer for 41 years. Over the 25 years I’ve been involved with the charity they have started many initiatives that make a world of difference to support the needs of carers such as counselling services and respite. It’s absolutely what carers need and it’s great to have Willans support”.
