Our packed-out business bowling competition raises over £3400 for Maggie’s Cheltenham

27 February 2020

Around 130 people from the county’s leading businesses took to the lanes at Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday 26 March for Willans’ first ever business bowling competition, raising more than £3,400 for Maggie’s Centres Cheltenham.

The sold-out event was attended by around 20 teams, from businesses including Investec, Randall & Payne, Albright IP, Wynne-Jones, Mosaique and The Finance Roome.

Managing partner Bridget Redmond presented the winning team, Brewin Dolphin, with a trophy and Hollywood Bowl’s pink pin. CF Roberts took second place and third place was won by Andorran and Investec. Bridget commented “We’re so grateful to all the local businesses who came along to support this event and donated raffle prizes. We’re incredibly pleased at the amount the bowling night has raised for Maggie’s to help them to carry out their vital work.”

James Badham of winning team Brewin Dolphin added that it was “a knockout event, for a very worthy cause.”

A raffle helped to boost the fundraising amount, with prizes generously donated by local businesses including Koj, Cheltenham Town FC, Glos County Cricket Club, Avon Valley Railway, Berkeley Castle, Birdland, David Lloyd, Ludlow Racecourse, Somerset County Cricket Club, Sudeley Castle, Cheeseworks, Newport Golf Club, Stuart Holmes, Prithvi, Cotswold Farm Park, Worcester Racecourse, The Green Dragon Inn and Rodway Hill Golf Course.

Anna Mason, centre fundraiser at Maggie’s Cheltenham, said: “Thank you to Willans for a fantastic fundraising event; it was a lively, light-hearted evening and the funds raised will make a real difference to many people in the three counties living with or affected by cancer.

“Fundraising through events like this means that not only can we provide our services in the centre but also, in the wider community.”

Through a network of 25 centres based in the grounds of cancer hospitals in the UK and overseas, Maggie’s provides practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, their families and friends.

This year, our firm has undertaken a variety of fundraising activities so far for Maggie’s, including taking part in the Miles for Maggie’s initiative, donating lawyers’ time to Maggie’s Will Week, baking competitions, a carol concert and more.
