Matthew Clayton MA LLM (Cantab), CIPP/E
Matthew heads our employment team. He handles the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues for clients which include multi-national companies, owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organisations. His particular specialisms include complex staff restructurings and employment issues concerning business transfers.
He has an extensive track record in advising on restrictions on competition imposed on ex-employees, the protection of confidential business information, and data protection issues including GDPR. Matthew also has wide experience in resolving employment disputes involving directorship and shareholding issues. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers' Association and the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and a GL Ambassador for GFirst LEP. He is also the company secretary for Cheltenham Festivals.
A Cambridge graduate, Matthew trained and worked at a City of London law firm, qualifying as a solicitor in 1996. Prior to joining Willans, Matthew led the employment team at regional firm, Rickerbys LLP.
